As a precursor to Halloween, Asbury native singer/songwriter Nicki Jaine came home for a quick set at The Saint back on October 3rd and what a set it was. The Philly transplant as of late has been captivating the denizens of the "big apple" with her uniquely original and tastefully twisted tales of life, love and all things bizarre.
Peering out at the audience be hinder her deep set black mascared eyes, Nicki Jaine (keys/acoustic guitar) as she is apt to do, wove a black widow's web of mystery, intrigue and deadly seduction with such delicously wicked tunes as "Sound of Girls" (way cool keys/very out there), "Fireflies & Razorblades" (ruby lips & masquerades), "Pigeon Named Crow" (vintage N.J), "Madman" (deeper & darker, oh my), "Pretty Faces" (oh-so-Nicki), "Disaster You're Beautiful" (the beautiful come down/excellent), "One More Show" (another winner) and "Should Have Known" (mesmerizingly evil).
Hey. Nicki Jaine is thinking and performing on another plane. Her at time lighthearted keyboard play and subtle acoustic strumming belies the seethingly deep and dark emotional intent of her lyrics. Yes. Nicki Jaine is out there, but she is also one of the most unique talents I have seen in years. And her performance at The Saint was simply brilliant!
